Lynn Switzer

Ms. Switzer has been practicing law since she graduated from Texas Tech School of Law and passed the bar in 1997. Prior to entering law school, Mrs. Switzer obtained her Bachelors in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting.

She began her legal career in private practice but quickly transitioned into criminal law as an Assistant District Attorney. She continued as an Assistant District Attorney for 5 years until she was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as the 31 st District Attorney. Ms. Switzer was the first woman 31 st District Attorney and served for 8 years.

In 2013 she returned to private practice and opened the firm Switzer | Oney, Attorneys at Law, PLLC with her former First Assistant District Attorney, Jeromie Oney.

Mrs. Switzer’s professional background is varied. She has experience in prosecuting criminal cases that range from felony DWI’s to Manufacturing Controlled Substances to Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child to Capital Murder- Death Penalty. She has over 90 felony jury trials under her belt. She also has experience in writing and arguing criminal cases before the 8th Court of Appeals (El Paso) and the 7th Court of Appeals (Amarillo).

As District Attorney, Mrs. Switzer worked with 7 local law enforcement agencies, the Texas Department of Public Service, the Texas Rangers, DEA, FBI, ICE, IRS and CBP.

Mrs. Switzer developed and implemented the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program for the 31 st District. She also developed and implemented the Multi-Disciplinary core case review for child sexual assault cases.

Mrs. Switzer has also practiced Federal Criminal Defense, being admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court- Eastern District of Texas. Mrs. Switzer was also admitted to practice in the U.S.
District Courts-Northern and Western Districts of Texas.

Mrs. Switzer now primarily focuses on family law- divorces, child custody, possession and access and child support and child welfare. She also practices estate planning- wills and trusts, and probate law.

Mrs. Switzer was inspired to become a lawyer because she believes that everyone should have a voice in our judicial system, whether it be a victim of a crime, a person accused of a crime, or someone else who needs help in navigating the legal world. Mrs. Switzer has been a long-time presenter for the Shaken Baby Alliance in Fort Worth. She has presented to various law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, Child Protective Services caseworkers, Adult Protective Services caseworkers and investigators.

She has also presented to fellow prosecutors at the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association.

Mrs. Switzer is a published author with articles published in the Texas Prosecutor and CBS 48 Hours.

Mrs. Switzer has appeared in the CBS 48 Hours series, “Lived to Tell- A Sole Survivor” and A&E’s “The Killer Speaks- Ice Cold Levi King”.

Mrs. Switzer previously served as Regional Director, Region 1, TDCAA Board of Directors and Regional Director, Region 1, TDCAF Board of Directors.

Mrs. Switzer has also been involved in various local civic organizations. She served as President of Cooke County United Way, been a member of Gainesville Kiwanis, served on the Frank Buck Zoo Board, a member of Gainesville Chamber of Commerce and Valley View Chamber of Commerce and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
